An inscription on the stretcher states, “Seth Howard house Chachapacasett Road.” Howard was a farmer in the 19th century in Barrington. Frank Convers Mathewson, 1862-1941, was a prolific Rhode Island painter who specialized in watercolors and oils. The painting is dated Sept. 1889. Nice period frame. Condition very good.
