Whaleman-made Scrimshaw Whale Bone Fid
This extremely large (almost 2 pounds) 19th-century fid would have been used for rope work and for making grommet holes in sails. It is constructed of whale bone, exhibiting heavy use with a piece of the tip broken off. Length 14-1/2 inches.
